Forget The Spice Girls, We Have.. Band's Reunion Single Delayed As 52,000 Fans Learn Their Lines

IT'S going to be the biggest and fastest language lesson in our history - but 52,000 Scots have just 24 hours to learn Gaelic.

That's because part of the chorus the Tartan Army are going to sing at Hampden at half-time tomorrow is in the language.

And Gael Power appears to have spooked the Spice Girls, forcing them to delay the release of their reunion single by a week.

Meanwhile, a host of Scots stars are checking their diaries and gearing up to take part in the Tartan Army's charity recording of Loch Lomond.

True to their Western Isles roots, Runrig included some Gaelic lines in their rock version of the song.

And that could make things "interesting" when Scotland fans sing during the Euro 2008 qualifier against Ukraine, according to Record man and Tartan Army fanatic Bob Shields.

Bob added: "After pre-match conviviality, some of the lads can barely speak at all, never mind the Gaelic.

"But I've every confidence in my fellow footsoldiers.When you can sing Doe A Deer for 30 minutes without a fag break, you can sing anything".

The tricky part comes in the chorus when most fans think they are singing "Ho-home again, ho-home again b-o-y-s"

The the correct lyrics are: "Ho mo leannan, ho mo leannan bhoidaeach"

Runrig manager Steve Cullen said: "To be honest, I wasn't sure myself until recently.

"But I'm told the words mean - or as near as you can get in English - my beautiful love.

"To the best of my phonetic translation, the chorus should sound like 'Ho mo leeannan, ho mo leeanan boyach'.

"But the lyrics will be shown on the screen at Hampden and I'm sure the Tartan Army will make a great job of singing their hearts out.".

The Spice Girls claim they have postponed their single because they don't want to clash with the new Westlife release.

But Ian McCaig, whose whose company, The Edge, are marketing the new Tartan Army/Runrig single joked: "We know the truth. The Spice Girls were frightened Loch Lomond would keep them off top spot."

Yesterday, our phone lines were red hot as celebrities expressed their support for the Runrig song for this year's Children in Need.

Artists including Franz Ferdinand, Wet Wet Wet, Amy Macdonald, Texas, and Billy Boyd have declared in interest in taking part in the promo video if their busy schedules permit.

Other celebrities being approached include The Krankies, The Proclaimers, Radio 1's Edith Bowman, TV presenter Kelly Dalglish and her father Kenny, comedians Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill and River City's Shellsuit Bob.

Alex McLeish's squad will also take part after recording their contribution at the team's HQ this week.

BBC man Grigor Stirling, who is masterminding the video promo, said: "We'd love people to send in their versions.

"And the more unusual the location, then all the better."

After a wonderful time raising money we raised locally in Milton Keynes alone which £11,923.96, just making cakes and selling them. We began the fundraising back in September. We also did raffle, doing a sports day. Plus fancy dress! Altogether nationwide we raised £109.732.31. We managed to beat last years amount and we did. I were notified today the amount that were raised.
