Wet Wet Wet are a musical phenomenon and a British institution. Since their debut in 1987 the band has remained in the British album chart for 284 weeks, in the British singles chart for 212 weeks and holds the record for the most consecutive weeks at number 1 by a UK act (15) while also being one of the most successful live bands in British pop history. Now, 20 years after their first album ‘Popped In Souled Out’ claimed the number 1 spot, the Scottish four-piece of Graeme Clark (bass), Tommy Cunningham (drums), Neil Mitchell (keyboards), and Marti Pellow (lead vocals) release ‘Timeless’, a sublime and polished presentation of pop rock at its best.
With a one-of-a-kind cover design by famed artist Klaus Voormann (also known for the Beatles’ ‘Revolver’ album cover), ‘Timeless’ is an updated twist on the classic Wet Wet Wet formula of melody, harmony and lyric.
As usual, Pellow's voice is immaculate, strong and full but is now set against a combination of luscious guitar chords mixed with the symphonic depth of an orchestra and fantastically hook-laden melodies with gorgeous, crisp production.
Standout tracks include the up-tempo modern rock masterpiece 'Run', the harmonically layered ballad 'Weightless', the melancholic ballad 'Thru’ The Night' and the Beatle-esque 'What Do You Know' whilst lead single 'Too Many People' is a classic Wet Wet Wet blend of soulful pop destined for national airplay.
Wet Wet Wet will be celebrating their successful past, vibrant present and, by the looks of it, a very bright future with a British arena tour in December 2007. 4th Birmingham - Birmingham NEC 5th Manchester - Manchester Evening News Arena 6th Sheffield - Sheffield Arena 8th Belfast - Belfast Odyssey Arena 9th Glasgow - Glasgow SECC 10th Aberdeen - Aberdeen Exhibition Centre 11th Newcastle - Newcastle Arena 13th Cardiff - Cardiff CIA 14th London - Wembley Arena

biography
Undoubtedly a musical phenomenon, Wet Wet Wet have remained a relevant institution in British culture from the time they formed in 1982 up until present day. With an incredible back catalogue of songs including three U.K. No. 1's – ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ (1988), ‘Goodnight Girl’ (1992) and ‘Love Is All Around’ (1994), the guys have been making an impact with their music for 20 years now and what have become the familiar ingredients to the Wet Wet Wet sound - cascading instrumentals, killer hooks and that stunning voice – have made them one of the most successful bands in British pop history.
Following their reunion in 2004, the much loved Scottish boys embraced the future and advanced their already fruitful career by selling out a UK-wide arena tour and achieving UK top 20 chart success with their second greatest hits album The Greatest Hits, which included the hit single ‘All I Want’.
Now, Wet Wet Wet are at it again with a 20th anniversary tour and forthcoming album release… The major arena tour, to commence on Tuesday, 4th December 2007, will stop at most major UK city centres including Glasgow, Birmingham, London, Aberdeen and Cardiff. All shows will include new material from the Wets’ forthcoming album ‘Timeless’, which they’ve spent the first part of 2007 perfecting down to the last sweeping orchestral detail. In other live news, the guys recently previewed their new set at the Newmarket Racecourses, where they took the July Course stage on Friday 17th August for the final "Newmarket Nights" of the season, pulling a crowd of 18,000 – a record-breaking figure for the series of events.
The album is an updated twist on the classic Wet Wet Wet formula of melody, harmony and lyric. As usual, Pellow’s voice is immaculate, strong and full but is now set against a combination of luscious background of luscious guitar chords mixed with the symphonic depth of an orchestra, fantastically hook-laden melodies/lyrics and gorgeous, crisp production. Standout tracks include the up-tempo modern rock masterpiece ‘Run’, the harmonically layered ballad ‘Weightless’ and other favourites ‘Through The Night’, ‘Too Many People’, ‘Eyes Wide Open’ and ‘What Do You Know’. Collectively, all twelve tracks that make up ‘Timeless’ come together to create a sublime and polished presentation of pop rock at it’s best.
Having formed in 1982 after taking their name from a line in a Scritti Politti song, the band that cite some of their musical influences as The Clash, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Jimmy Webb, Bacharach-David, Elvis Costello, Donna Summer and Chic released their first album in 1987, Popped In Souled Out. It proceeded to enter the UK chart at No. 2. Further singles from the album – ‘Sweet Little Mystery’ and ‘Angel Eyes’ - pushed it to No.1 14 weeks later and it went on to achieve five times platinum status.
This was the start of a phenomenal run of 26 Top 40 hits including ‘Temptation’ (1988), ‘Sweet Surrender’ (1989), ‘Lip Service’ (1992), ‘Julia Says’ (1995), ‘Don't Want To Forgive Me Now’ (1995) and ‘If I Never See You Again’ (1997). In that mix were the three U.K. No. 1 singles. First was The Beatles' cover ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ (1988) - whose proceeds of £600,000 were donated to Childline. Followed by the self-penned, ‘Goodnight Girl’ (1992) that was number one simultaneously with the High On The Happy Side album, and ‘Love Is All Around’ (1994) - a No. 1 simultaneously with End Of Part One - the first greatest hits album.
Wet Wet Wet also achieved a reputation as one of rock's best live acts. If you require facts and figures to back that up, here they are… On their first major tour in 1988, they played to more than 500,000 people in 40 days throughout the U.K., Europe and Japan. The summer of 1988 saw them take part in the Nelson Mandela 70th birthday concert at Wembley Stadium peforming ‘Wishing I Was Lucky’ to a global TV audience of millions. Then Marti duetted with '60s singing legend Joe Cocker – on ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ - at The Royal Albert Hall. The gig for the Prince's Trust featured an all star backing band of Elton John, Phil Collins, Mark Knopfler and Brian May. Elton was so impressed that he invited the Wets to open for him later that year on a U.S. tour which included gigs at prestigious venues such as Madison Square Garden in New York and the Hollywood Bowl in California.
In 1989, they headlined a free home town concert at Glasgow Green for 75,000 people. The gig was the biggest free event ever to be held in Britain, overshadowing The Rolling Stones legendary Hyde Park show in 1969. Another free show on the Isle of Arran, was broadcast live on Radio 1 interrupting their daytime schedule to do so, and a sell out gig at Edinburgh Castle - both in 1992 - cemented their reputation. By 1995, Wet Wet Wet were the most popular live act in the U.K. playing to in excess of 715,000 people across 11 countries and in 2005, the band were one of the headline acts at Live 8 in Edinburgh and played the Summer Weekender festival in England.
Their recording and tour success was punctuated by a string of awards - as they were recognised by everyone from the BPI, the Brits and Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy to Smash Hits, Record Mirror and the Daily Star.
With all of their various accomplishments in tow, the band are looking forward to releasing their first album of new material in 10 years independently, thereby embracing the current climate of self-promotion and artist control in the digital age. Could Wet Wet Wet be the British music’s next indie pop heroes? Maybe so but either way you choose to look at it, the boys are taking hold of their destiny and making it happen in the mainstream once again.

Wet Wet Wet to play Hard Rock Cafe charity tour
Story by Jack Foley
GLASWEGIAN pop chart-toppers Wet Wet Wet are to perform at all five Hard Rock Cafes around the UK at the end of October as part of Hard Rock’s Rocktober concert series.
Wet Wet Wet join popular bands like Lil Chris, Nerina Pallot, Ross Copperman and Ghosts in playing the Hard Rock venues in support of The Caron Keating Foundation.
Just ahead of their Decemebr tour of the UK, Wet Wet Wet will kick off their Rocktober shows at the Hard Rock Cafe Edinburgh on October 22.
The group will then visit Manchester, Nottingham and Cardiff before hitting the stage of the flagship Hard Rock Cafe in London’s Old Park Lane on November 1.
Hard Rock’s Rocktober, which started in Europe in 2005 and grew into a global campaign, brings some of the world’s best live music to small and intimate surroundings.
The series of events support local breast cancer charities across the world, and proceeds from each event throughout the month goes to the chosen charities.
This year, Hard Rock Cafes in the UK will donate proceeds to The Caron Keating Foundation, which offers financial support to professional carers, complimentary healing practitioners and support groups dealing with cancer patients, as well as individuals and families who are affected by the disease.
Wet Wet Wet frontman Marti Pellow said: “We’ve visited many a Hard Rock Cafe during our travels, usually for dining though and not performing!
“We don’t often get a chance to play in venues where we’ll be able to see the whites of the audience’s eyes, so we’re really looking forward to doing these shows ahead of our big arena tour in December. Here’s hoping we can rock hard and help raise some money for such a great cause.”
Founder of the foundation, Gloria Hunniford, added: “I’m so thrilled that Hard Rock Cafe has chosen to support the Caron Keating Foundation. We’re very much a family run organisation, and we have all in our working lives been involved in the music industry.
“Caron used to present a television rock programme as well as hosting occasionally Top of the Pops, and I know, she would truly approve of ‘Rocktober’ and how many people dealing with cancer will be helped through your efforts in raising money, in her name.”

Wets rained in Spain
Billy Sloan
WET WET WET lived up to their name when they jetted to Spain to shoot the video for new single Too Many People.
It rained non-stop in Barcelona while back home in Glasgow people were enjoying a heatwave.
Drummer Tommy Cunningham said: "It was thunder and lightning from the moment we arrived, then we phoned home to discover Glasgow was the sunshine capital of Europe that day."
The lads are poised to play their most intimate gig on Scots soil on October 22.
They'll perform for just 100 people at the Hard Rock Cafe, in Edinburgh, to raise funds for the Caron Keating Foundation.
Tommy said: "Cancer touches everyone's family. We wanted to help this great cause."
Tartan Army Charity Song A Huge Success
Oct 15 2007 By John Ferguson
Tartan Army Are On-Song As Scotland Take The High Road To Great Hampden Win 50,000 Supporters Belt Out Charity Anthem On Glory Day
THE Tartan Army charity chant at Hampden Park on Saturday has been hailed a roaring success.
More than 50,000 footsoldiers belted out Loch Lomond to help raise thousands of pounds for BBC Children In Need.
Celtic rockers Runrig are recording a special version of the anthem and asked fans to provide backing vocals at halftime during Scotland's 3-1 demolition of Ukraine.
Runrig manager Steve Cullen said: "I was at the game and the fans sounded magnificent.
"It really made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
"The band were on the phone minutes after the game to say they thought it was brilliant. We played the new version of the song on the stadium PA for fans to sing along to so that the timing and pitch would be just right.
"And listening to it on the day, I think the crowd captured it perfectly.
"BBC sound technicians were making the recording and I am now waiting for them to send us the tape so the final product can be cut together.
"The Tartan Army have always been renowned for their singing ability and they proved themselves on Saturday.
"The song, along with the terrific result, made it a perfect day."
A spokesman for the BBC added: "Our sound engineers are absolutely delighted with the results.
"The Tartan Army were in great voice and the recording has come out really well."
The finished version will be made available on-line in November with all proceeds going to Children In Need.
Supporters who didn't know the words on Saturday didn't have to worry as the lyrics were shown on two giant screens at either end of the pitch and the tune was played before the kick-off to let them hear how it should be sung.
Hampden scoreboard operator Stephen Hubble was in charge of getting the lyrics up on the big screens.
He said: "I was pretty nervous because we knew there was only going to be one chance to get it right - but I think it all worked out really well.
"The half-time score definitely helped and the fans did themselves proud."
Sound engineers and technicians were positioned all around the stadium, recording the supporters' singing. The high-flying Scotland team will also guest on the charity single after recording their contribution earlier in the week.
And organisers hope to sign up famous Scots including Ewan McGregor, Gordon Ramsay, Jim Kerr, Sharleen Spiteri, Fran Healy and First Minister Alex Salmond to star in the video.
Artists including Franz Ferdinand, Wet Wet Wet, Amy Macdonald, Texas and Billy Boyd are hoping to take part.
Other celebrities to be approached include The Krankies, The Proclaimers, Radio 1's Edith Bowman, Scotland great Kenny Dalglish and his sports presenter daughter Kelly, comedians Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill and River City's Shellsuit Bob.
The single's release coincides with the Children In Need appeal on November 16. Scotland's final qualifier against Italy takes place the next day.

Message From The Band + A Reminder About 'Too Many People'
Hi there,
At long last, we have some new material out in the shape of our single Too Many People. We’re very proud of it and we’re so glad that many of you have already bought it on cd or downloaded it and seem to be enjoying it, phew!
We feel the need to say that the singles market and chart have changed a great deal in the twenty years that we’ve been releasing material, and its certainly been a learning curve for us of late in looking at the way singles are no longer stocked, let alone racked out by many of the retailers you would expect, that said technology is so advanced now that you can download the music straight onto your computer, or mobile phone for that matter. Amazing!
Can we also mention that we’ve been told by the industry insiders that our ‘midweek’ chart position is number 40 so it’s touch and go as to whether we’ll notch up another top forty hit or not. So if you haven’t gotten your copy yet, what are you waiting for!!!
Seriously though, please see all the places you can get the single below. Happy cd hunting and / or downloading!
